Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Doctors Appointments

I recently began a job that offers health insrurance. Since it had been some time since I had been isured, I began making appointments to see my doctor. Unfortuantely my doctor is only open between 10am and 5pm but my work hours are 10am - 6pm, and every time I make an appoitnment to see my docotor, I get repremanded for coming in late even though I give notice to my emplyer of the pending appointment. What are my rights and waht are my employer's rights in this situation?

Re: Doctors Appointments

What you are basically saying is that now that you have been provided health insurance, an employee benefit from your relationship with your job, you feel it isn't necessary to actually work for the full time that you are being paid. Your rights are to make medical appointments during non-work hours or during lunch hours. If your doctor cannot provide this to you it may be in your best interest to find another doctor. Another possible solution is to ask your employer if its possible to make up the time that you miss going to medically necessary appointments and it might be in your best interest to limit your doctor appointment to one every 3 months or so. Especially when you are new on a job it is in your best interest to make a good impression.
