Legal Question in Employment Law in New York
earned stock options after separation
I was recently laid off and was wondering if the stock options I had received as a bonus can be taken away from me as they were. I received the stock option instead of the cash option. This was a choice by me but there was no information given that these were not actually mine. If I had chosen the cash option I would not forfeit the cash so why the options? Also these items were part of a Total Compensation package that were ''sold'' to us by the company--name removed--HR dept.

Your rights are controlled by the language of the policy pursuant to which you received the options. Without an examination of such document, it is impossible to render any significant advice.
