Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Is my employer legally allowed to ask why I am taking a "personal" day and demand that I tell them the reason so that they can determine the validity of why I am taking a "personal" day and then deny it and tell me that I have to report to work? To me, there are some issues that are genuinely "personal" that I do not wish to discuss with my employer.

read your employee handbook you do not have to tell the employer why you are taking a vacation day, but you may not be allowed a "personal day" under your contract Please, forgive my typos (painful hands). Good luck!
