Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Employer refusing to return employee property

At the beginning I was asked by my employer to bring in software that they did not want to purchase themselves, i first declined, they asked again, so i agreed. I was recently released from my position and my employer refuses to return my software. What rights do I have?

Is this software you created? Or is it software you purchased, that you loaned to your ex-employer?

The return of personal and company property frequently becomes a part of the severance negotiation process. If you have not executed a separation agreement, you may wish to discuss this matter further.
