Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Employment Contracts

I have a 3 year term contract with

my current employer. I understand

it is not enforceable and I am free to

quit at anytime. However, when I

interview with competitive companies

for potential employment, they

become squimish when they learn of

the three year term and no longer

want to continue discussions. Could

myself or future employers be used

for damages? I don't understand why

the term agreement is treated any

differently than ''at will''.

Re: Employment Contracts

Take a second look at your employment agreement and see if there are any restrictions on future employment within the same field. In the event there is such a restriction you may want to consult with an attorney before terminating your employment. Finally, from your letter regarding the reactions of your potnential new employers, there may be restrictions on future employment that is common on such agreements in your profession.
