employment reference

i am currently unemployed and as a result i need to ask my past employere for a reference he will not give me one he got very offensive

There is really no way to extract a good recommendation from a former employer. However I believe there are services which will find out for you what this employer is telling prospective employers about you should you list that employer in an application. It is possible that. This employer is stating libelous things that are not protected speech; giving you an actionable lawsuit.
