Legal Question in Employment Law in New York
Employment/Registering Voters
I was a student employee for the state college Athletic Department and I am a member of the campus College Democrats. So, I was put in charge of getting an event to register voters before the most student populated game before the last day to register at the school sponsored tailgate. So, I scheduled the event prior to the game that I was, incidentally, scheduled to work at. However, the day before the game I had found out that the Athletic Department had said we were not allowed to register voters before or during the game because it was not the appropriate time or place and it was not in the spirit of the event. So I spent the rest of the day and the beginning of following day, which was the day of the game, trying to figure out how to make everything work and by mid-afternoon I had called my boss to tell him that I could not work the game because Athletics would not allow anyone to register voters. I then found out that Athletics had no right to tell us we could not register voters so I assisted the College Democrats in doing so. I was then fired from my job with the Athletics Department and they said it was because I let them know too late that I wasnt working the event. Does this mean anything?

Unfortunately, we do not handle legal matters in your state as we are only licensed to practice law in the state of Arizona. Good luck on your matter.
