Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

I was fired from a job based on "hearsay" that i made another employee "uncomfortable". Here's the catch, the converstaions were marajuana related. These were meerly conversations, there was no exchange of drug, or money. This did not happen on the work premesis. I recieveed no warning on being fired, and was not told i was making anyone uncomfortable. The district manager verbally told me i was "let go" and not fired therefor hindering my chances of unemployment.

In New York, assuming you do not have an employment contract, you are an employee at-will, and they can fire you for any reason or no reason, so long as it is not an unlawful reason. So the answer to your question is yes, they can fire you based on those facts.
