Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Fired from Job.

Dear sir/Madam:

I was recently dismissed from my job as a department manager in a Bank located in New York City(due to violation of check cashing privileges).

Can you please advise me on the following questions:

1}What are my legal rights.

2) Will this affect my getting another job in Banking.

This just happened yesterday 12/12/00, however I do not want to contact my Ex-employer without a game plan.

For your information I was employed there for almost four years receiving excellent reviews from my Manager and was supposed to receive a Bonus within a week or two which they have denied me.

I also have a 401K with them.

(I have been in Banking for more than 27 years and I'm concerned about my reputation).

I am married with two small children 11 and 13.

I do not have a lawyer and cannot afford one at this time as I was our only means of support.

Please advise soonest and thanks in advance for your consideration.

Regards,

Re: Fired from Job.

It is difficult from the information provided to determine what, if anything, you can do tocontest your firing. New York is an "at will" employment state, meaning that an employer can fire an employee for a reason or no reason at all, unless there is a discriminatory purpose (age, sex, race discrimination)behind the action or a contract that has been breached, employee handbook proedures disregarded, etc. On the face of it, it appears that you were fired for cause, and absent any applicable reasons to contest as outlined briefly above, it appears that you have no case.
