Legal Question in Employment Law in New York
Can you be fired from a job because of an injury thaqt inhibits you from going to work? More details;
Before I started the job the company knew of the injury. I was told that they would work with me. One day the pain got so bad that I had to leave work and go to the hospital. I did not want to leave work at first because I was scared of loosing my job. I made this fear clear to all the supervisors, and was told by all of them, " You have nothing to worry about". When I was discharged from the hospital the doctor put in his instructions not to work for at least three days. During these three days the injury got worse and the time had to be extended to one week. Due to this extention I called my place of employment to make them aware. Upon telling them, I was told, " I would have to be let go". I was told from the beginning that I had nothing to worry about and to go seek medical attention. Then I am told that I can not work there any-more. Is there any law that protects the injured worker? Can any company fire an employee just because of an injury, that they were made aware of from day one?
