Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

fired for physically defending myself

I was fired because another employee threatened and physically pushed me. In relfex I pushed back. We were both fired over this altercation. This other employee 's behavior was brought to my employers attention and my employer didn't attempt to thwart this from happening. What recourse do I have now?

Re: fired for physically defending myself

It depends if there is any background information, and whether you are a member of a protected category, whether you believe that you were discriminated against or fired for some other reason.

If this was an employment policy such as "zero tolerance" for fighting at work, the employer is probably okay.
