can they force us..

can our employer force us to take a break when we are squderaled to work from 10am-3pm(5 hours) is it true we dont have to take a break till 6 hours has reached this is new york state we are talking about!

You might be referring to the Factory Worker exception to the NY Labor Law which normally only requires a break after 6 hours. The Factory Worker exception requires employers of factory workers to provide a one-hour mid-day break. So long as you are not required to perform ANY work during this time and are alloted the full hour, this is legal.
