Legal Question in Employment Law in New York
If I was a full-time salaried employee with a contract and have been fired verbally (over the phone), what is my former employer required to provide in terms of paperwork on reasons for firing, severance, notice of termination, etc., and is there a time limit in which they have to deliver that paperwork.

Here is a short answer to your questions: absolutely nothing. I would suggest that you send a letter (express mail or U.S. Priority mail) confirming your telephone conversation and what transpired. You will need this incrementation should your employer challenge your request for State unemployment benefits.
Your employer is under no obligation to tell you why you were terminated or respond to a letter inquiring as to the same. However, if you suspect you were fired for misconduct, the sooner you file for unemployment benefits the sooner your employer will have to explain the reasons fr your termination. If however, your employer does not contest your unemployment claim, you may never know the reasons.
Best of luck!
