Legal Question in Employment Law in New York
Gender Discrimination
I live and work for a big company in the state of New York for 2+ years. Over the past few months my boss who has a history of harassment towards women began harassing and abusing me. He offered me a promotion without compensation and everytime I asked him for compensation he would say no and tell me that I have to prove myself and that I should be grateful for the opportunity. After months of insults and abuse, I finally turned the promotion down. He then offered it to a male employee (with no experience in my field) WITH compensation. During this time (April-now), I have kept in constant touch with the Human Resources in our headquarters to report EVERY incident. They promised that they would take care of the situation with my boss and his abuse. They acknowledged his pattern and abusive behavior towards women over the years and said they would do something. Things in the office are awful. People are harassing and taunting me.
Does my situation merit legal counsel?

Re: Gender Discrimination
Yes it does. It appears that you have played by the company rules in that you reported the harassment to HR. I assume your company has an internal dispute resolution policy that you have been following? Harassment and discrimination, while similar, do have different legal analyses.
