Legal Question in Employment Law in New York
Harassment after employment termination
I decided to leave my position as a manager with my employer in April because I wanted to be available to assist my husband who was a loan officer with the same company. It was mutually agreed that this would benefit both parties so the termination was amicable. During the next few months the employer went out of his way to make me as uncomfortable as possible, including, but not limited to taking away my computer, denying me access to services that were available to other assistants. This employer has a history of terminating loan officers when their pipeline is a certain level and not paying them their share of the commission. This is what happened in October. Since then, the CFO and in-house attorney have been calling constantly and e-mailing me because they feel they should be entitled to a share of the commission for loans that were taken with my new employer just because they may have been past customers of my previous employer. I know that banking department law protects the borrower's right to obtain financing with whomever they choose. Please let me know what the best response would be to stop the constant harassment. Thanks.

Re: Harassment after employment termination
I would have to see the context of the emails from the in house counsel to assess the harassment and response. Also, the real question is what is the reason for the harassment.
Feel free to contact me should you wish to discuss this further.
