Legal Question in Employment Law in New York
I am a highly qualified registered nurse (RN) with a bachelor's degree and my mother works as a nurse manager at a hospital. She was told by his boss that there are plenty of job openings and I was more or less guaranteed a position at the hospital near our house. Now, my mom's boss states that he is uncomfortable hiring me since my mom may, in some unlikely scenario, need to reprimand her. Instead they are giving positions to less qualified nurses with an associates degree (LPN) over me as well as leaving positions open for other RNs to apply. I know that nepotism can be a problem, but in this case I deserve the job and am being denied just for my last name/relationship with my mother. Is there a reverse nepotism or some sort of discrimination case that can be made to pressure my mother's boss into hiring me? Thank you for you help.
