Legal Question in Employment Law in New York
Hi,
I've worked for a company for the last 8 years and my performance has always been up to par. There's nothing in my employee file that would suggest that I was incompetent, insubordinate, or otherwise. I was recently let go by my employer stating that I've abused the time off policy when all I did was taking my vacations and on one occasion took time off (a week) as recommended by my doctor. what are my legal rights in this case and were they violated?

You can apply for unemployment insurance.
Unless you have a contract of employment, you are considered an at will employee and may be let go at any time, even without cause.
Unless your employment was due to illegal reasons such as discrimination based upon age, religion, race, etc., you have no recourse against the employer/
Last sentence should read: "Unless your discharge was due to illegal reasons such as discrimination based upon age, religion, race, etc., you have no recourse against the employer/
