Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

My husband was fired, and his termination letter cites, "Open disagreement" with reference to a specific meeting on a specific day. We appealed to the department's higher administration as to why he was terminated without warnings or any write-ups and were told that there were "other issues" involved in his termination that they cannot share even with him. After looking into why our department did not follow the proper disciplinary process, we were told that the policy had changed and we could be fired "at any time, for any reason'. However, no one was informed of this change in policy. Do we have a legal case? this is in New York City.

More information is needed to give you an appropriate answer. New York State does allow most employers to terminate an employee at any time for any non-discriminatory reason. An exception would be a union employee who has other rights or if a work agreement states otherwise.

Please feel free to contact my office via email with your contact information if you wish to discuss this matter further.

Good luck!
