Legal Question in Employment Law in New York
i am interested in suing my previous place of work for slander. a couple days ago i went in and they told me that they had to "let me go" because theyre company was headed in a "different direction. they would not give me any more information regarding my termination. the next day i was told by another employee that they fired me because i came in "high" twice. i was appalled by this. not only did they never ask me to take a drug test or tell me that was the reason for my termination, but they went behind my back and told other employees that i was high on drugs. do i have a legitimate case?

You may just have difficulty inn getting your former co-workers to testify in your lawsuit, as they may fear retaliation from their employer. Have you filed for unemployment?
They may contest that by making the same claim. That might be easier to prove.
You might be able to find an attorney to take the case on a contingent fee basis. Otherwise you are looking paying fees without any guarantee of seeing a dime.
You have been defamed (assuming that the allegation were false). But damages is entirely another thing, and there is no indication of any actual economic harm. There may be ways to get your former employer to stop defaming you short of an actual lawsuit.
