Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

job harrassment

The problem I have is I am one of the few white people at work. The others have a problem because I do my job diligently and the bosses are always mentioning it. Lately, there has been tampering of my computer, customers are told that I am drunk at work. Two of the others are complaining to the bosses about me not speaking englsh, (in fact they are people who don't have command of engish. Threats of a physical nature, remarks relating to my race and age,my lunch has been tampered with while in the refrigerator at work. The bosses are aware and have done nothing except send out very generic memos which most of the people laugh at. On sunday nights I become physically ill about going to work on Monday. What do I do? I am sole supporter of my family and need the job.My husband is disabled. Please help me. Thank you

Re: job harrassment

If you work in NYC contact the NYC Human Rights commission. If you are out of the city, contact the NYS Department of Human Rights.

They both have web pages accessible through the NY State Home Page or this link is the State Human Rights home page.http://www.nysdhr.com/

If your employer has 4 or more employees, they will ask you for information on the telephone, send you a letter, and set up an appointment.

They will forward your complaint to the EEOC if its warranted.
