Is there any legal action I can take?
I recently worked for a company that provided companionship for the elderly. While employed there (for 6 weeks). We had black and white employees. If I tried scheduling black employees to certain clients, I would be told I cannot send a black person who needed hours and I would have to schedule a white person and give them overtime. This made my job very complicated and made me uncomfortable since I am not racist. I know practicing racism is against the law in any area of employment, but I was wondering if I had any legal actions I could take against my former employer for subjecting me to their discrimination policies? I have an employee phone list which has asterisks next to all of our white caregivers, which proves that there was racism practiced.

In certain cases, courts have accepted claims filed by individuals who alleged that they were sometimes required to participate in discriminatory employer practices. This requirement could be deemed to have created a "hostile work environment," in your case on the basis of racially discriminatory conduct. But you will have to provide more information in order for an attorney to assess your claim. For instance, how many individuals were employed by the business? What were the circumstances under which you left that employment? Did the employer engage in any additional harmful conduct directed at you personally?
