Legal Question in Employment Law in New York
Legal Rights of Salaried Workers
Is it legal for an employer to send employees home when business is light, dock their salary, then call them back when business picks up? Pay is issued for hours worked at employer's discretion. Staff are dental assistants and receptionists who normally work a 30/40 hour week, and were hired to work on full time basis. No contracts were ever signed upon recruitment. Thanks for your advice.

Re: Legal Rights of Salaried Workers
There is no obigation for employers to staff at-will (no contractual) employees when there is no work for them to do. On the other hand you are free to look for another job with more work and better pay prospects.
