Non-paying employer
I was working full time for the past year for a small architecture firm. Though I worked full time in the office as a Project Manager, I was paid as ''freelance.'' For the past 6 weeks, the employer has only paid me a third of what she owes me. I know the firm is low on funds, but she is using the excuse that she is not satisfied with my work (retroactively). I took another freelance job and left this office. She has retaliated by asking me to meet, and she then threatened me with a lawsuit b/c she had the computer consultant go through the files and found that I had burned cd's of office projects. (I would take them to work at home). She demanded she and the computer consultant come to my home and erase the files. I allowed this, but now feel incredibly violated. Prior to this meeting I texted her to say I wanted confirmation I would be paid in full for the amount she owes me. She agreed in the text message, but the result was this intrusion into my home. What can I do to get my wages?

If the dispute for wages is under 6,000.00 you can file a claim against your former employer in small claims court if New York City is the proper venue for the case.
