Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Overtime Exempt employee about to get a settlement. Need your take on this.?

I am a "FedEx driver's helper". By law, I am exempt from overtime but my lawyer and i had filed a overtime claim class action against the contractor that we had worked for. last month my lawyer said that the contractor is interested in settling.

Me and my lawyer are both surprised. My settlement conference will be coming very soon. I'm curious to why the opposing side is willing to settle.. maybe they have enough dirt and don't want this to go to trial?

Is this common for an exempt employee to win settlements?

I appreciate any answers .
