Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

We have a part time employee, who happens to be the friend of the owner from his country club, who just walked in and said he has to change his schedule because of school. This adversely effects me because he closes 2 days a week for me and one of the days he cannot.I was just told of this change by the part timer that takes effect next Monday. When i brought this up to the owner he said too bad, if you don't like it you leave if you like. This part timer gets his way of the land around the company because of his relationship with the owner. Do I have recourse to take in this? I have personal responsibilities i need to take care of and this schedule change is not good for me. I have worked here over 7 years and he's been here less than 8 months.

Welcome to the world of employment. You do not have any legal rights to make your employer treat everyone fairly. This would not be the case if there were unlawful discrimination occurring, but that appears not to be the case. There is no law that prevents an employer from giving undue advantage to his personal friends. Ironically, your employer's response seems to be sound legal advice: If you don't like, it, you can leave.

Good luck to you.
