Pay Stub Request
I am a computer consultant who's contract is being bought out by another consulting firm due to request of company I'm consulting for. The new company is asking for the following and am wondering if it is legal to ask for these. They are asking for an updated resume, copy of last pay stub from current company and a release letter for non-compete agreement from what is my current company. Are the 2 last issues legally inforceable in order to complete the contract? If you could get back to me as soon as possible, that would be very helpful. Thanks for your time.

In the computer business, non-compete covenants are all around. I'm not surprised that a new employer would want to have a release of any such covenant. There's no law I know of which prevents them from asking for it. Same for pay stubs. Question is what happens when the former employer refuses to sign a "release," which could easily happen. I don't know of any law which requires them to sign such a release.
