Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

I am a recent graduate who left for NYC to find my career in these tough economic times. I interviewed for a company for three months. During the third and final interview, I meet with the chairman who hired me, his exacts words were "we would like to present an offer to you". The HR mgr then came in saying congrats and gave me a brief list of their benefits. She then told me she would go over the list, salary and details of the next steps the following week. The following week came and no call. Then the week after that I contacted them and was told we can't offer you the position anymore because of "unforeseen circumstances". But I had my life on hold and turned down other employment opportunities during the week and a half after they said they offered me the job. Was this a verbal contract? Do i have a case?

I am so sorry but there was no verbal agreement to the extent where there is a remedy at law. This is common in good and bad times.
