Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

I've recently made posts on Facebook about funny/annoying incidents at work, at no time mentioning the name of the business, (it's not listed anywhere on my page), people's names, details, titles or any specifics whatsoever. I was told that someone from the office was "checking" my Facebook page and reporting to my supervisor, (though it is set to private). I was then told that I wasn't allowed to post anything that is work related.

Is a job allowed to sensor what I do on my private time when I am not in anyway mentioning the business name. Here is a sample of my postings, "I just had someone pull the "Do you know who I am????" line on me. I do, I just don't care."

There's nothing derogatory, etc. Are they really allowed to censor me like this?

This is a tricky area and although it sounds like your rights are being violated but on the other hand, Facebook is public and so many people have been burned by it, whether warranted, legal, or not. There is not a legal remedy for every wrong, I lack enough info but I strongly advise stopping it, even if everyone in your office is a character on "The Office" or Dilbert. Don't risk your job-esp in this economy.
