Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

registered nurse marries former patient

i work for the federal government as a registered nurse certified in psychiatric nursing. a patient came through our program, i was his primary therapist, he completed our program, went on to another program and was the discharged to the community. he was staying with his sister in the same town i live in, we met again and began a friendship, the friendship developed and we were married. i have been under charges for "psychiatric exploitation of a patient" for about a year now, they have done their "investigation" i have been allowed to go back to work in the same area i worked previously and three months after returning to my present job they are proposing a 10 day suspension. would this affect my state board license, i am licensed in new york?? my husband receives no money, was indigent when i met him and is psychiatrically stable, his diagnosis was depression and etoh abuse.

Re: registered nurse marries former patient

It is hard to say if it would immediately affect your state license. It certainly would have to be reported and that would be in your file, making any further entries that much more serious. This kind of problem raises a lot of legal and ethical and even religious issues....you should resist the proposed suspension in the chain of administrative law available to you as a Federal employee.
