Returned lost property

I returned property i found at work and was given a receipt and told that if in 30 days said property was not claimed i would be given property i turned in. Now that said property seems to be of some value, employer wants to change policy and keep property. Is this legal.

Why did you turn it into your employer? If you have areceipt you may be able to enforce the agreement as a contract, I would need more information.
