Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

rules of severance pay and contested unemployment and bad job references.

I had 2 surgeries within 2 months time so my work fell behind. Upon returning with documents from my doctor, i was informed that my employment was being terminated. During the discussion with my boss i asked to have closure with my clients and to complete my work. He declined my offer and said that he had other people working on it. I then asked if I was being paid for that week and was told to come back the next day. I received severance pay equal to 1 week and monies owed to me. I was given documents to sign, and during my haste to leave forgot to get copies. However, I do have copies of my pay stubs. When I, filed for unemployment I received 1 check after the 3 week waiting period then got a letter that the job was contesting my unemployment for misconduct. I also believe that the job has given me bad references. I won my unemployment case, and have requested a copy of my signed severance documents. What should have taken 2 days is now going into 3 weeks. However they want me to complete the work that i asked to finish before as a gesture of good faith. Do I have a legal case against this agency.

what do you mean when you say you won your unemployment case. Did you go to court or a hearing. was the issue of the documents you signed discussed during the hearing or court case.?
