Legal Question in Employment Law in New York
Does selling inherited stock affect unemployment insurance benefits? I have heard that if you collect unemployment benefits and sell stock, the price of the stock is deducted from your benefits, and you have to re-pay that amount.

If you are not regularly engaged in selling stock then it will not be considered employment under unemployment benefits rules. A one time event such as you describe should not bar or reduce your benefits.
