Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Severance pay New York State

Is an employer required to pay severance? Who gets severance pay? Do you have to request severance pay? Do you have to file a law suit? Do you need to have a written contract in order to receive severance pay? Is there ever the expectation of severance pay. Can an employer pay severance to one employee, yet not the other?
