Sign on bonus
My question is for my husband who works in NYC. He took a job on the basis there was plenty of work. Unfortunately for over a month, day in and day out there was no work and he quickly realized financially this was not a good move for him and our family. He then gave notice and was told to leave immediately, due to his line of business.
Now, in his contract a sign on bonus was given. The contract stated that if he left within a certain timeframe he would have to repay the bonus, which was clear. However, the contract does not state that the bonus must be repaid all at once and within a specific timeframe. My husband now on a daily basis gets emails to his current employment, telephone calls and past consultants have been grilled by this employer when they call to ask for him as to his whereabouts. My husband has told him that he would repay the bonus but could not do it all at once. The emails and calls continue. What are our legal rights at this point. It is turning into harassment. Your help is greatly appreciated.
