Legal Question in Employment Law in New York
I signed an employment contract for 2 years. I wanted to ask what seems to me a contradiction in the contract. In one page it states "employee shall work for a period of 2 years commencing on the date hereof (date i signed the contract)". In another page, states "employee must remain with the company for 2 consecutive years". I start working with the company Aug. 2009, but I signed the contract Sept. 2008. There's a gap of almost one year from the time I signed the contract and from the time I start working. My question is when should I be free from this contract? or When should this contract take effect? from the time i signed it? or from the time i started working?

You should show the complete agreement to an attorney. The differences in wording could be due to several factors and an attorney will be able to explain your obligations once he/she has reviewed the document. Feel free to call my office if you would like to schedule a review of the agreement.
