Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Sudden Wage Reduction

I have a question regarding wages. A family member of mine works for an employer who told them that effective immediately their hourly rates of pay were going to be lowered. They were given no warning regarding this and are wondering if it is legal for the employer to do this?

Re: Sudden Wage Reduction

As long as there is no contract, or union involvement, and the wage adjustment remains above the minimum wage the boss' actions are legal. Of course, your relative has the option to immediately resign as well.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can call my office to schedule an appointment for a consultation or in the alternative, I can be reached for on-phone low-cost legal consultation at 1-800-275-5336 x0233699.
