telephone privacy rights

in new york state, is it legal for your employer to demand your home telephone number, and if so, under what circumstances?

I've never heard of an employer NOT asking for a home phone number. How else can they contact you in case of an emergency, etc.? I think it would be a reasonable matter for you to (1) ask it not be given out and (2) limit any calls to such emergencies. If employer violates the second item, technically it might be considered harassment under Ny Penal Law.
