Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Termination

I was just fired from a part-time job. I received no notice, no warning, or no alternative solution. Could you please let me know what the laws in New York are regarding firing someone, and what recourse or compensation I might receive.

Re: Termination

In NYS you were an "at will" employee who can be fired for any reason or no reason, with the exception of discriminatory reasons such as Age, Sex, Race, Ethnicity, Sexual Orientation, Disability, etc. If such is the case and you believe that were were fired for discriminatory reason(s) file a complaint with the NYS Equal Employment Commission as soon as possible. The Commission will investigate and if discimination is discovered, will attempt to settle the case with the employer, and/or issue you a right to sue letter.
