Does an employer have to contest unemploymet when misconduct is the issue and the misconduct did not affect the interest of the employer

The employer does not have to contest your unemployment benefits application but it is in his best interests to do so for legitimate reasons. If you were terminated for misconduct, you can be denied unemployment compensation. Your employer's unemployment insurance premium rate is based on his claims experience. If you are denied benefits, his rating is not affected and his rates may not increase as much.
