Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Unions

I am a nurse in a school and am interested in getting out of a union that currently represents bus drivers and clerical staff. There are 3 nurses and we all would like to find out if we can get out of our present union and join the teachers union, a union we feel would better represent us as professional. The teachers union has said that it would welcome us if we could get out of the other union. The union contract that current represents us will expire in June 2002. Thank you so much for your help as we are not sure how to go about this. Karen

Have you spoken to your representative? Does your contract have a provision for what you want to do?
