Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Unlawful wage reduction

I am a female lead technician. I signed a contract with my employer to guarantee my salary. Basically, my employer claim that I am not fufulling the position of a lead technician after several months of performing the job. They have demoted my and drop my pay to an apprentice. Is this legal?

Re: Unlawful wage reduction

What does the contract say about performance, pay, pay reductions, job changes, and other related issues? What type of contract did you sign? Was it an actual employment agreement or just an acknowledgement that your initial job would be as a "Lead Technician" at a certain salary? Did the document you signed have a statement similar to "The employer has the right to change your job title and work responsibilities at any time, and to adjust your salary accordingly"? If you have an employment contract, both you and the employer are expected to abide by the terms of the agreement. You should have an attorney review the document and discuss with you what happened. Feel free to call my office for a consultation.
