I was a wedding planner for a wedding. The couple paid for the decorations and the wedding cake. As a result of being a long time friend, we drew up a letter stating the amount they were to pay me for this service. Nothing was mentioned of labor. I told them by word of mouth to pay me on their wedding day what its worth. Notwithstanding I still have to pay the people who helped me put the wedding together. On the day of the wedding, when payment was mentioned, the husband told me he would write a check when he returns from his honeymoon. Now am being told that they assumed that the money they paid covered everything and they are refusing to pay for labor.
As a result of not having the price of labor documented, do I have a case to take them to Small Claim Court for compensation of labor? As of now I still haven't paid the workers.

You may have a case that is ripe for small claims court if you have any witnesses to the oral agreement. Mediation is a mandatory first step in smalls claim court.
