Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

My 2 year lease on my residential apartment expired in the beginning of November. Since then, however, I have been paying the monthly rent as usual, my landlord has made no mention of a new contract, and the checks have been cashed. Did my contract renew? Are there any legal rights (based on the original contract terms) that I have because I have continued using the apartment?

I would have to read your prior lease. However, assuming that there is no language concerning an automatic renewal, you would be a month to month tenant. You would have the same rights under the previous lease, except, you may be evicted upon service of a thirty day notice.
