Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Apartment building was sold how do you get in contact with previous owner.
I was sharing a apartment with a roommate during this time i had to leave the state for a personal matter, I payed my portion of the rent. however my roommate did not continue to pay thier share, so apparently she moved out the apartment was in my name and thier was a balance on the rent. It was never payed so it went on my credit report. Whm I tried to get information they told me the building was sold and the lawyer who was apart of the case no longer is in practice. This is hindering me form renting, I need to get this of my report, how do i handle this issue to find the appropiate people.
