Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Bedbugs

Can I sue my landlord due to the effect that there are cracks in my walls and the Landlord is taking their time in resolvig this issue.Meanwhile the bedbugs have infested my apartment.I am losing alot of sleep because of the constant bites and itching.I have 2 kids that reside with me as well and they are effected by this issue. My son and I have scars and rashes on our bodies from the bites.I've reported this problem to management and I streesed to them that I've already thrown away my bed and I'll have to throw my kids bed as well,my livingroom furniture will be next because it as well is infested with bedbugs. The building exterminator has been to my apartment and told me that I will need a few more visits from him but it never happened that way. Can you please help me get my life back again?(without bedbugs)

Re: Bedbugs

This is a serious matter.

A DHC inspection may be ineffective because they do not 'test' for insects.

However, a direct petition to the court will be effective.

1. Stop paying rent.

2. Send a letter to the landlord describing the problem.

3. petition the court under violation of 'warranty of habitability' in the NY City Civil Court, Housing Part, in your borough (Brooklyn? - 141 Livingson Street, Second Floor).

This is the kind of work that I do and you are welcome to a consultation for no fee.
