Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

commercial leased space

in 6-02 i was evicted from a commercial leased space, until 2004 i lived in the same building and was never approached regarding the 2 remaining years on the lease. 6 years later 7-08 i am being sued by the landlord for the remaining time. The question is what is the legal time that a landlord has to sue me?
