Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

A dog in a ''No Pets Allowed'' apt. building

Hi,

I'm in NYC. My Doctor told me I need to live with an animal (dog...which is want I would select) due to the fact that I have depression.

I currently live in an apartment building that doesn't allow pets.

Can a Doctors note support me in my attempt to get a dog?

Thank you and have a great week!

~Tom

You must show that you have a disability which impedes the use and enjoyment of your home. Also that the animal will lessen the disability

and increase the enjoyment of the home.

Make sure you doctor writes the letter with all the buzz words.

Also, do not get the pet before approval but if you do, they have 90 days from the time they know you have the pet to file a claim against you. Otherwise, the no pet clause is waived.

I highly suggest that you wait for approval before getting the pet, for the pet's sake.

Good Luck.
