Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Eviction

I am currently seeking Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Insurance. I am on Public Assistance which pays partial rent.

I have no lease agreement and have occupied the premises for 1 yr 6 months. The landlord wants me to move out due to arrears in the amount of $900.

I was sanctioned while receiving Public Assistance and they will not pay back rent. I offered to sell some personal items to pay off the debt but landlord refuses to accept.

I have received a 30 day notice that was hand written by landlord and was threatened to be locked out on August 11, 2003 If I do not vacate myself.

During my living on the premises the door locks have been changed 4 times to lock out other tenants she has evicted in this manner. The police have no power to get Landlord to let them in. They were advised to take her to court.

Can you help me, I am on Public Assistance and have no money for a Lawyer and cannot afford to move out at this time. I have a mental illness that prevents me from work and showed the landlord papers from my doctor stating this fact.
