Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Eviction

I was wondering, I have a neighbor that got an eviction notice of failure to pay rent...which social services are willing to pay the past due balance. The couple are both disable, one with Rheumatoid athritis, and the other was in a car accident and does not have full use of his right arm. The both also have doctor's notes stating that they are out of work until further notice. My question is, if the rent is paid by August 31st when they have to be out, would they still need to move because they are under the impression that they still have to get out. Please contact me ASAP, they really need to know there rights and responsibilites before they go to court.

Re: Eviction

If the complaint against them is solely based upon their failure to pay rent, and if all rent is paid by the court date, or some other day agreed to by both sides, or by a date directed under court order, the tenants need not vacate if they satisfactorally resolved the issues subject to the complaint.
