i live in a room in a private house. i don't have a lease, been living here for a year and the landlord wants to evict me. how must notice must the landlord provide, and must she go through the courts to evict me?

The landlord must give you 30 days notice. However, the 30 days is a calendar month. In other words, if you receive notice today the lease must terminate November 30, not November 17.
To answer your second question, yes, the landlord must go to court.
